UK FP Curriculum 2021 (2026 Revision)
Foundation doctors:
The UK FP Curriculum 2021 (2026 Revision) places greater emphasis on sustainability and delivering high-value healthcare. As you move through your placement, think about how sustainability relates to your everyday practice, for example:
- reducing unnecessary investigations and interventions
- prescribing safely and appropriately
- reducing waste
- contributing to quality improvement
- supporting patients to make informed decisions when recording evidence in your e-portfolio, consider how your experiences demonstrate sustainable healthcare alongside safe, effective patient care.
Supervisors:
As the first placement comes to an end, clinical and educational supervisors should revisit the changes introduced through the 2026 Revision, including the increased emphasis on sustainability. Support foundation doctors to use feedback and evidence from the placement to produce a concise, evidence-based summary narrative that highlights their progress, strengths and areas for further development. See our new End of placement 1 – ES meeting quick guide to support you with this.
Visit the curriculum resources and UKFPO webinars pages for further guidance, including recordings on the curriculum revision (only 7.5 minutes long!), TAB and PSG, and writing the summary narrative.
Medical education teams:
As you review local educational activity, consider how the themes of sustainability and increased focus on evidencing safe patient care are reflected within your foundation programme, including teaching, quality improvement opportunities and support for supervisors. The updated Foundation Programme core learning topics reflect the focus of the 2026 Curriculum Revision.

Foundation SCRIPT elearning update
This month, the SCRIPT team are spotlighting the ‘High-Risk Oral Medicines’ module, following feedback from foundation doctors that they would value further support with warfarin prescribing.
The module covers the safe prescribing and monitoring of high-risk oral medicines, including warfarin, digoxin, lithium and methotrexate. It explains why these medicines require particular care and provides practical guidance to help support safe prescribing and monitoring.
All foundation doctors have free access to SCRIPT. If you haven’t signed up yet, you can register at: https://foundation.safeprescriber.org/login
