Programme Information
Will applicants be informed of both their F1 and F2 placements for their 2-year programme at the point of match to programme?
Those allocated to a substantive post within the Northern Ireland Foundation School will receive both their F1 and F2 placements at the matching stage of the allocation process.
If no (to above question), how and when will they be matched to F2 placements?

Will foundation doctors work in the same hospital/location for their 2-year training programme?
Applicants allocated to Northern Ireland will be allocated to a specific Trust area for F1 and a different Trust for F2. There may be a number of programmes allowing the applicant to remain in one Trust for the duration of their training.
Does the foundation school allow F2 Abroad?
Northern Ireland is unable to facilitate any placements within the 2-year programme abroad.
Does the foundation school offer FPP programmes?
FPPs are not offered within the Northern Ireland Foundation School.
If an applicant is approved for pre-allocation to the foundation school, will they also be pre-allocated to group or programme?
Those pre-allocated to Northern Ireland are not pre-allocated to a group or programme. If a specific area is required within the School, further information can be provided regarding the Special Circumstances Policy.
Does the school allow matching to group or programme for linked applications?
Northern Ireland will honour linked application to a School level but cannot guarantee applicants will be allocated to the same area within the School as their linked applicant.
Does the school hold a welcome event for newly allocated F1s?
If so, when?
Northern Ireland holds an in person Regional Induction for all those allocated to the School. This is an opportunity to meet their F1 peers, colleagues from their allocated Trust and receive vital information relevant to training. For August 2026 intake, the NI Regional Induction will take place on Thursday 30th July 2026.
