Introduction
Welcome to the March bulletin.
Most FDs will be changing posts at the end of this month and entering the final post of the year. This means that ARCPs are approaching. For those who are unaware, of these, the ARCP (Annual Review of Competence Progression) is a process to review the progress of all doctors in training and, for doctors more senior than F1, it forms part of the GMC revalidation process.
In Foundation, as in most specialty training (including general practice), it is the responsibility of the Foundation doctor to ensure their portfolio is complete.
Details of requirements can be found at Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) – UK Foundation Programme
It is most important to ensure there is sufficient evidence linked to all the FPCs in the curriculum section of your eportfolio. You can do this by creating a summary narrative for each of the HLOs where you review the evidence you have acquired over the year. If you are not sure you have all the evidence, please speak to your educational supervisor.
Some of the evidence in the eportfolio comes in the form of supervisor reports. Please ensure you arrange an appointment with your CS and ES for them to be completed. Without your CS and ES reports you cannot progress.
For those Foundation doctors out of phase or on careers breaks, there will still usually be an ARCP although this will not be used to decide on progression.
The final thing to remember is that ARCPs are usually carried out in June, so eportfolio’s must be completed by the end of May. This means the supervisor’s end of year report needs to be completed by the end of May too.
As always, there is more information on all this on the UKFPO website.
Best wishes
Tony Choules, Operational Advisor to the UKFPO
