Foundation Schools

Non-urgent advice: What is a foundation school?

Foundation schools are a conceptual group of institutions that bring together medical schools, deaneries, trusts (acute, mental health), primary care, health boards and other organisations such as hospices. They aim to offer training to foundation doctors in a range of different settings and clinical environments.

Foundation schools deliver foundation programme training according to national guidance developed by the UKFPO. There are local variations in some areas. The geography that each foundation school covers and their linked medical schools can be found within the pages below. A summary of local policy for group/programme matching and linking are also included for each foundation school.
