Pre-allocation
I am an applicant who is qualifying (or has qualified) from a country not on the proposed prioritisation list, and I have had my pre-allocation application approved. Will I still be pre-allocated to the foundation school that my application was approved for?
Allocation to a foundation school is due to take place on 12 March 2026, subject to the passing of the proposed Bill. The Preference Informed Allocation method (PIA) will be used, and all applicants will receive a computer-generated rank.
When allocation takes place in Oriel, if there are more applicants in the priority group than there are places available, only the prioritised applicants will be allocated to a foundation school at this time. Non-prioritised applicants will remain un-allocated and will wait on a national reserve list. Further rounds of allocation will take place if vacancies arise.
If you are allocated to a foundation school in one of the later rounds of allocation, your pre-allocation could still be applied to you, if a vacancy exists in the foundation school that you were approved for.
I am an applicant who is qualifying (or has qualified) from a country on the proposed priority list and I have been approved for pre-allocation. Will I still be pre-allocated to the foundation school that my application was approved for?
Yes. If you have been approved for pre-allocation and you are qualifying (or have qualified) with a primary medical qualification from one of the countries proposed as prioritised, you will still be pre-allocated to the foundation school that you have been approved for.
Why were the pre-allocation application outcomes delayed?
Due to the possibility of the announcement of the Medical Training Prioritisation Bill, the outcomes for pre-allocation applications could not be released during the week of 15 December 2025 as planned. This was because details of how prioritisation might or might not affect different groups of applicants was unknown. Now that the proposed Bill has been announced by the Government, the UKFPO have been able to start understanding how applicants to the Foundation Programme may be affected. Outcomes were released to applicants on 15 January 2026.
