UKFPO Bulletin: 28 July 2021

Posted on:

Welcome to this latest UKFPO bulletin.

Wednesday 4th Aug is not far away now and I’m sure many of our new F1s will be feeling anxious as they approach the end of their shadowing period. If this applies to you, please remember that you are not alone and there is plenty of support available if you need it from more senior trainees, educational supervisors and postgraduate centre staff all of whom will be willing to help you settle in. Remember, many of us have been in your position and those that haven’t are used to dealing with people in your position. If you don’t know, ask.

Also, first impressions make really good reflective entries in your e-portfolio and a reminder at the end of the year on how far you have come – write some of your thoughts down.

To all those who are not new F1s, please be considerate and remember there is a lot to take in. Some of our new colleagues will take the duck to water approach, others will need a little more help. If you see someone looking lost in the corridor, please check they are ok and if you don’t get a really clear answer ask if they are sure.  Remember, we are all individuals, and we all have different needs.

UKFPO F1 trainee induction survey

New F1 doctors are invited to complete the UKFPO F1 trainee induction survey during August and September 2021. This is part of a long term project to identify any concerns/anxieties you may have about starting your F1 post. The information you provide will help to develop a realistic evaluation of the induction programme and help us to improve working life for future trainees. It should only take you approximately 10 minutes to complete. The questionnaire is anonymous and your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated. See further information in this invitation letter.
