This guidance on this page has been updated for the UKFP 2027 Pre-allocation application process.
Non-urgent advice: Important changes for UKFP 2027
The following documentation will no longer be accepted as evidence of proof of address for pre-allocation applications:
TV licences, Tenancy agreements, Council tax closing bills/final bills and GP Patient Summary records
All applicants are required to provide one document as proof of address which meets the requirements listed on this page.
- Evidence requirements
- Acceptable evidence
- Unacceptable evidence
- Application forms matching proof of address
- Change in name
Documentation and evidence requirements for proof of current address
All applicants must provide one piece of documentation as proof of address, to evidence that they are already living in the region that they are applying to be pre-allocated to.
Documentation which does not meet the below requirements will not be accepted by the national review panel, and the pre-allocation application is likely to be rejected.
The proof of address document you provide must:
- Meet the requirements listed below for an acceptable proof of address
- Match the address which you have provided on your pre-allocation application form, and this must be for the foundation school area that you are requesting pre-allocation to.
- Be an address that falls within the foundation school area that you need to be pre-allocated to
- Include the building number/name, street name and the full postocode.
- Be in your full name (first name and surname) and not solely in somebody else’s name.
If your name is shown as an initial for your first name, and then your surname in full, this is permitted.
If the document is addressed to both the applicant and to the other account holder (e.g. partner) and is therefore in both names, this is permitted (if it also meets all of the other criteria explained in this guidance). - Statements that can be printed off at home from accounts online, such as bank statements or utility bills, are acceptable.
The UKFPO will accept the following documents as proof of address
The UKFPO will NOT accept the following documents as proof of address
Documents which are not accepted (and not limited to):
- Drivers licence (provisional and full)
- Tenancy agreements (including student tenancy agreements)
- TV licence
- GP patient summary record
- Council tax closing bills/final bills
- Mobile phone bills
- Credit card statements
- A letter provided by your university/medical school
Application forms match proof of address
You must ensure that the first name(s) and surname that are on your proof of address match those that you have provided on your main Oriel application AND on your pre-allocation application form. These must not be different and if they are, the national review panel may not accept your proof of address.
Reminder: you can update your name in Oriel if you need to, once you have submitted your Foundation Programme application. Refer to the “How to Apply section” for information about how to do this on Oriel.
Change in name
If your name has been legally changed (for example, due to a relationship status change, identity alignment or another practical or personal reason) and you do not currently have proof of address in your current/new name, please provide evidence of your name change along with proof of address in your old name (which must also meet the other requirements on this page). A copy of this must be uploaded onto Oriel along with your proof of address and any other supporting evidence at the time of application.
Acceptable evidence must be in the form of a legal document, and this will include: marriage or civil partnership certificates, deed polls, statutory declarations or affidavits, or gender recognition certificates or adoption orders.
