Foundation School Preferencing
You are required to preference all foundation schools in your order of choice using a drag and drop process.
A list of the geographical areas that each foundation school covers can be found on the Foundation Schools webpage. You should refer to local foundation school websites for details of trusts, health boards and other employing organisations in each region and for placement and rotation information.
You can amend the order in which you have preferenced foundation schools following the close of the application window. The deadline for this can be found in the application timeline.
How to preference foundation schools on Oriel
- Do not attempt to rank preferences using a smartphone device, as Oriel has not been designed to work on these devices. Please use a PC browser for this function.
- Navigate to the Preferences tab in your application form. (You can also update your preferences via the Preferences tab on your dashboard)
- The list of foundation schools will appear by default in the right-hand No Preference column. Drag and drop each of the foundation schools into the Preference column on the left, in your order of choice.
- You must press the save button every time you wish to save your preferences and changes. The system will not autosave your preferences. The “save” button can be found in the top right-hand corner of the screen.
- After submitting your application and following the close of the application window you can amend the order in which you have preferenced foundation schools by the deadline in the application timeline. This means that if you change your mind or have a change in circumstances you can amend your foundation school preferences.
Non-urgent advice: Saving your preferences
The Oriel preferencing page is set to time out after 59 minutes of inactivity. Do not have Oriel open on two browsers/tabs at the same time, as your preferences will not be saved.
There is no ‘submit’ button for preferences in Oriel. You must save your preferences. The system will not autosave your preferences. Make sure you remember to save your preferences if you leave your computer part way through preferencing.
