How to submit an article?
To submit an article, complete the HOFP article submission form.
Current foundation doctors and alumni who completed the Foundation Programme within the last 12 months are invited to submit a 500-1,000 word article under one of the following categories:
- Transitioning into Foundation training
- Sharing best practice / training opportunities
- Remote and rural
- Medical humanities
All submissions must adhere to the principles set out in GMC good Medical Practice.
By submitting content, authors confirm that it is their original work and consent to its publication on the UKFPO website and its use in presentations and other public-facing materials. Copyright is shared between the author and UKFPO and authors remain free to reproduce and distribute their work. We encourage honest and open reflections while being mindful of colleagues, employers and foundation schools.

What’s in it for authors?
Publishing an article through HOFP provides an opportunity to share your experiences, insights and achievements with the wider Foundation Programme community. It is also a chance to showcase your interests, talents and perspectives beyond clinical practice.
Selected articles will be published on the UKFPO website and authors will receive a certificate of publication.
We invite honesty and openness, and also encourage you to consider the impact of what you’re sharing on your employer, foundation school and colleagues. Foundation doctors are encouraged to discuss any specific issues or challenges you are experiencing with your local team, and seek support when needed.
Selection and publication process
All submissions are reviewed monthly by the UKFPO Fellows.
Selected articles are chosen for publication based on their relevance, quality and contribution to showcasing the diverse experiences, perspectives, projects and achievements of foundation doctors across the UK. Articles are scheduled for publication throughout the year and will be featured in the UKFPO Bulletin. Due to the volume of submissions received, articles may not be published in the month they are submitted. Authors will be notified if their article has been selected for publication and scheduled for release. Contributors whose work is published on the UKFPO website will receive a certificate in the month of publication.
