The following changes have been made to the IFST application process for 2026
Proof of address – driving licence removed
Driving licences will no longer be accepted as proof of address (this includes full and provisional).
Applicants should refer to the list of acceptable evidence for proof of address.
FSD declaration section of application form
IFST applications from both incoming applicants and current foundation doctors who are already working in a training programme (either the F1 or F2 training year) are now required to arrange for the completion of the FSD declaration section which includes a signature from the current Foundation School Director (FSD) or their nominated deputy. Completion of this section is mandatory for all applicants.
Applicants should note that completion of this section of the form by the Foundation School Director does not mean that the IFST application has been approved. The national IFST review panel is responsible for agreeing on the outcomes of all IFST applications received during the national submission window.
Applicant guidance moved to web format
In line with our organisational website and accessibility guidelines, applicant guidance is gradually being moved out of Word and PDF documents and directly onto the website pages.
The Inter-foundation School Transfer applicant guidance has been moved onto the website for the 2026 application process.
