Taking your test via OnVUE
If you choose to complete the test by remote proctoring (OnVUE), you must agree to the strict invigilated conditions. Failure to comply with standard assessment procedures and proctors’ instructions may result in your test session being revoked. This could mean that your score may be revised to zero and your application may not reach the next stage of the recruitment process.
Your booking confirmation email will specify the total appointment length. This is how long you can expect to be engaged within the OnVUE platform. The total appointment length will be approximately 60 minutes. If you have approved extra time, the total appointment length will be approximately 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes). Extra time will only be applied to the test itself (usual SJT section time of 45 mins + 25% extra time = 57 mins for the SJT). The other elements of your appointment (check-in, NDA, tutorial and survey) will be the standard length of time.
Countries/regions where OnVUE delivery is restricted
There are specific countries where OnVUE is not permitted. OnVUE restrictions include:
Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic (Syria), Russia, Belarus, and the Sevastopol/Crimea and Donetsk/Luhansk (Donbas) regions of Ukraine.
You will not be able to access the OnVUE testing platform if you are located in one of the countries/regions listed above. Additionally, if your ID was issued by one of the listed countries/regions, you will not be able to use it to check in to your OnVUE exam (regardless of whether you are currently located there).
If you are currently living in one of these countries/regions, or your ID was issued by one of the listed countries/regions, you are advised to find your nearest test centre using the find a test centre option on the Pearson VUE website to book your test.
Key requirements for OnVUE
- Quiet, private location
- Reliable device with a webcam
- Strong, stable internet connection
Those with higher download speeds are more likely to experience a successful test delivery with OnVUE. If you have a download speed of less than 6Mbps, you will be blocked from checking into an OnVUE exam.
You will not be able to take the test in public places such as universities, public libraries or cafés. You must be in a private room and have no interruptions. Any interruptions may result in your test being revoked. There are also restrictions on the environment. For example, you must have clear desk and walls, and are not permitted to have any writing equipment or other items that have not been pre-approved as part of a reasonable adjustment. Detailed information is available on the Pearson VUE website.
To complete the test by online remote proctoring, you will be asked to install software and close background processes on the computer that you are using. It is recommended that you use a personal computer (rather than a public computer) to complete the test. Therefore, you must have administrative rights on the computer you will be using.
Non-urgent advice: System check
You must check that your device and internet connection meet the requirements and ensure that you have an appropriate space in which to test before booking your test to take place via OnVUE.
Neither the UKFPO or Pearson VUE can be held responsible for any issues relating to system requirements or testing environment, and are unable to advise or confirm if your system and/or environment meets the requirements.
If you require further advice on remote proctoring (OnVUE), please contact Pearson VUE in advance of booking your test.
Admission policy
The OnVUE check-in process begins 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
Identification (ID) requirements
The Pearson VUE ID policy for OnVUE appointments can be found on the Pearson VUE website.
It is recognised that names can validly be presented in different sequence according to cultural norms. Please ensure that it is clear between your Pearson VUE account and your ID that you are the same person. If you have any issues with your ID or if your name does not match your ID, you must contact the UKFPO at least 5 days before your scheduled appointment in order to change the name on the system; or in some cases, grant an exception which will be communicated to the proctor.
Middle names are not part of the ID check. You do not need to provide ID for any middle names (or have any middle names registered on your Pearson VUE account).
If you are unable to provide suitable ID on the day of the SJT, or the proctor is in any doubt about the validity of your documentation, you will not be able to sit the test, you will not be allowed to re-book or reschedule, and this will result in the withdrawal of your application from the process.
Alternative identification documents
If you are unable to present any of the documents listed on the Pearson VUE website, or your first name and last name on your Pearson VUE profile are not an exact match to the ID that you intend to present on the day of your test, you must contact the UKFPO at least 5 days before your test date for further advice and instructions on suitable alternatives.
Failure to notify the UKFPO of any discrepancies may result in you not being permitted entry to sit the test.
Resources
The SJT allows you to use a built-in digital whiteboard during your OnVUE test. You can use the digital whiteboard to do scratch work or take notes. Physical scratch paper or note boards are not permitted when taking an OnVUE exam.
During your exam, you are not allowed to use exam-specific materials and you are not permitted to use any physical writing instruments such as a pen, marker, or pencil.
Full information about remote proctoring can be found on the Pearson VUE website. It is recommended you read all of the guidance and test your system requirements before booking or taking the test. This provides further information, and it is advised that applicants review information on the Pearson VUE and UKFPO websites prior to booking or taking the test.
Unscheduled breaks and refreshments
If you choose to sit the test by remote proctoring, you will not be permitted to leave the room or move away from their screen at any time during the test. This is to ensure that test conditions are adhered to at all times. If you move out of the view of the webcam for any reason for any duration of time, your test session will be revoked by the proctor.
