F2 Stand-alone 2025 – Registration and Oriel

You must apply for the F2 Stand-alone programme through the Oriel national online application system. You are advised to start your application early to allow sufficient time to gather any supporting evidence and complete the application form.

You must first register an account on Oriel before applying to a particular vacancy. Oriel is compatible with Safari v12+, Google Chrome v77+, Edge and Firefox v68+. Ensure that you use one of these browsers when using Oriel. Ideally you should use the most up to date version of your chosen browser.

Non-urgent advice: Ensuring you stay updated

You are advised to check your email and Oriel account regularly throughout the application process. You will be prompted via email to check your account for information at key points in the process.

The UKFPO cannot guarantee delivery of emails, so it is important that you check your Oriel account and the UKFPO website on a regular basis. This is especially true at key points in the timeline. Any emails sent via Oriel are also stored in your Oriel account.

Application statuses are live in Oriel. Your application status will be updated at relevant points in the process, for example, after longlisting has taken place, and when we inform applicants of their interview outcome. You are advised to check your junk/spam mail folders in case any emails are incorrectly filtered out by your email provider.

To set up a new account and register:

1) Go to www.oriel.nhs.uk.

2) Choose the UK Foundation Programme tile under the Applicants section on the left hand side of the screen.

3) On the Welcome to Oriel page, click Register on the top right of the screen.

4) From the account registration options, choose Register to apply to standalone foundation vacancies.

Note: If you have already registered on Oriel, you should log in using your previous account credentials. Otherwise, use this option to register for an account in order to apply for the F2 Stand-alone recruitment process.

You must select the UK Foundation programme staff group by clicking on the UK Foundation Programme logo from the landing page. You will not be able to access the application form for the UK Foundation Programme by selecting any other staff group (including Medical and Public Health Specialties).

1) On the Oriel home page, select the UK Foundation Programme logo/staff group.

2) Select Vacancies from the toolbar on the left or top of the screen.

3) Select Standalone Foundation from the drop-down menu I am applying to: (You may need to untick ‘Foundation’ as this will generate search results for the two-year programme for provisionally registered doctors).

4) The vacancy will appear in the results box – select the Apply box to the right of the relevant vacancy.

If you selected the wrong staff group when you registered, you can amend this to show as Standalone Foundation on your existing account:

1) In the right hand corner of the screen select My Profile.

2) You will be presented with the Profile Options menu, select Security from the left-hand navigation menu.

3) In the right hand corner of the screen, select the edit profile information button.

4) You will be prompted to re-enter your password.

5) In the Amend your staff group selection field, select Standalone Foundation from the list of staff groups, then click on the Save button on the right hand corner of the screen.

You should only log into Oriel via one browser at a time. This includes not having Oriel open (logged in) at the same time on multiple devices.

Do not use a mobile device to complete your application. Functionality has not been built into Oriel to support this.

If there appears to be an error on the system, please try to access the site from a different web browser, for example, Google Chrome. Deleting your cache or internet browser history also often helps. If this does not fix the issue, support is available to you via the technical helpdesk: oriel@hicom.co.uk.

Please email the UKFPO Helpdesk at helpdesk@foundationprogramme.nhs.uk and provide your Oriel PIN to enable us to unlock your account.
