The Academic Foundation Programme provides a fabulous opportunity for foundation doctors to develop research, teaching and leadership/management skills in addition to the competences outlined in the Foundation Programme Curriculum.
To apply for the Foundation Programme and Academic Foundation Programme, first you need to ensure you are eligible to apply. If you graduated (or are graduating) from a UK medical school after the 5th August 2018, your medical school will confirm your eligibility on your behalf.
If you are graduating from a medical school outside of the UK, or graduated from a UK school prior to 5th August 2018, you will need to submit an eligibility application to the UKFPO. Please refer to the Eligibility Information page for more information.
You will need to apply to the national FP vacancy and any local AFP vacancies through Oriel which can be accessed here. You will also be expected to sit the SJT along with everyone else, but your score will not be used to allocate you to an AUoA, however all AFP offers are subject to a satisfactory SJT score.
For more information on the application process please read the UKFP 2020 Applicants’ Handbook and Applicant Presentation.
